Happiness within begins with gratitude. Gratitude centers us, keeps us present, and humbles us. The greatest blessing, of gratitude, is the happiness that develops from within. Like a river flowing out to the ocean, gratitude leads to the overflow of happiness from within. Be grateful–for what we have and where we are–in spite of the circumstances that surround us. There, we will receive a source of happiness no matter the situation or storms that surround us.
True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not. ―Lucius Annaeus Seneca
There are various reasons why we may not feel grateful or express our gratitude. The stresses and duties of life can often drain us of our happiness and discourage us from being grateful. For every negative event that happens, we have to attack it with 10 items of gratitude. We can not be grateful every once-in-a-while; we should cultivate the habit of gratitude daily.
Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude. ―Ralph Waldo Emerson
1) Fuels the source of happiness.
2) Humbles the spirit.
3) Keeps the focus on NOW, the present.
4) Radiates out, from within, to those around us.
In all things, give thanks.
Fight. Finish. Faith. (2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV)
